  • Dalat was discovered by doctor Alexandre Yersin (a Frenchman originally from Switzerland) over 120 years ago. At that time, it was only the residence of most of the Lach people (a branch of the Co Ho ethnic group).

Elephants were used to transport goods to Dalat in the early 20th century. Before the French transformed it into a resort town, the whole place was still very deserted and unspoiled.

Co Ho people sent sedges to the village. Sedge weaving is one of the traditional activities of the indigenous people in this area.

The Dalat development plan by architect Ernest Hébrard was made in August 1923. According to the project, Dalat was built according to the principles of a “garden city”, which would be a resort city. Until now, the development of Dalat is almost based on the planning projects of nearly 100 years ago.
