A prominent attraction for individuals with an interest in history is the statue of Mother Suot, which graces the banks of the Nhat Le River with a sense of pride. During the Vietnam War, Mother Nguyen Thi Suot (1906–68) was an extraordinary Vietnamese heroine. From 1964 to 1967, she risked her life in order to convey Vietnamese soldiers across the river in a small wooden boat, an act that proved to be of the utmost importance. Unfortunately, Mother Suot made the ultimate sacrifice while defending an American aircraft against a two-steel pellet bomb attack.

Those with a desire to relive the legendary Quang Binh War should visit the Van La Tunnel in Luong Ninh Village, which is located merely seven kilometers south of Dong Hoi Town. Built in 1966 atop a slope with a view of rice fields, this tunnel provided villagers with shelter in the event that bomb detonations occurred during their labor. With dimensions of 150 meters in length, 1.5 meters in width, and 1.8 meters in height, the "L"-shaped tunnel was completed in excess of 360 days. A sanctuary for more than three hundred individuals was established during the conflict, protecting not only the inhabitants of Luong Ninh village but also soldiers and messengers from other regions of the country from the danger posed by American weapons.
