In the Red River Delta and the mid-mountain valleys such as in the Pu Luong reserve, the rice is very green in May. At higher altitudes, the rice fields are flooded at this time, creating superb mirrors where the sky is reflected. A magical spectacle that you can contemplate in Y Ty, Mu Cang Chai, Sapa, or Hoang Su Phi, areas that are home to the most beautiful rice terraces in Vietnam. It is an ideal time to go hiking in the mountains and to meet the many ethnic minorities.

The month of June sees the lychee season arrive. Cultivated in the province of Hai Duong near Hanoi, lychees invade all the market stalls and even the bicycles of the itinerant street vendors in the capital. The shores of West Lake in Hanoi are covered in blooming lotuses, as are the ponds of the beautiful Tam Coc countryside where ripe, bright yellow rice is ready to be harvested.

In the high mountains of Northern Vietnam, it is rice transplanting time. Bent over in the rice fields, the farmers deserve to work hard under an increasingly oppressive sun. Hiking in June can be difficult for people suffering from the heat. To remedy this, favor Thac Ba or Ba Be lakes or places with waterfalls. Some rains heralding the summer monsoon appear during June without this being able to spoil your stay.

What to see in Central Vietnam in May and June?

The months of May and June are perfect for visiting Central Vietnam. In this season, the former imperial palace of Hue, the tombs of the emperors, and the Thien Mu pagoda are embalmed with the scent of flowers, especially those of frangipani and hibiscus. The weather is perfect for exploring the remains of the Vietnam War in the DMZ region and enjoying the stunning deserted beaches North of Hue. The weather is hot in Danang and Hoi An and the sea is a good remedy for heatstroke.

Don't miss the international lighting festival with the theme of “Brilliant Milky Way” in Nha Trang. With thousands of drones lighting up the night sky of the beach city from June 29 to July 20, you can enjoy these beautiful moments with four participating teams from China, India, the Republic of Korea, and the host Vietnam. Also in June in Central Vietnam, it is rice harvest time. Great activity in the fields to observe!

In the South of Vietnam, it is the start of the rainy season. The refreshing rains are welcome during this period of intense heat. These beneficial rains regenerate nature and give it a superb lushness like in the Mekong Delta. In this region, the first rains herald the arrival of seafood in the canals and arms of the river such as “linh” fish and the flowering of lotuses, the emblematic flower of Vietnam.

Seaside stay in Vietnam during this period

At this time of year, choose seaside stops in the North and Center of Vietnam. The months of May and June are perfect for taking a cruise in Halong Bay and/or enjoying the isolated islands and coves of the Cat Ba archipelago and Lan Ha Bay. Central Vietnam offers its immense stretches of immaculate beaches to relax in the shade of casuarina trees.

This is the best time to dive on the Cham Islandsand Whale Island. During this period, the latter offers you attractive rates. On the other hand, do not go to Mui Ne where the wind and rain risk disrupting your stay, just like on the island of Phu Quoc which is preparing for the imminent summer monsoon.
