If you do not need to carry much luggage with you and seek a cheap way to move between the airport and the center of Saigon, going by bus is definitely a good choice. Here are 5 bus routes from - to Tan Son Nhat airport available to passengers in Saigon.  

♦ About Tan Son Nhat Airport
Tan Son Nhat
International Airport (IATA: SGN, ICAO: VVTS), is the largest airport in Saigon and in Vietnam generally. It is located 4 miles (6 km) north of the center (District 1) of Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). Tan Son Nhat International Airport operates from two terminal buildings – Domestic Terminal 1 and International Terminal 2. The new international terminal opened in September 2007 with the capacity of 8 to 10 million passengers per year, giving the airport a total capacity of 15-17 million passengers per year. There are 5 buses from Tan Son Nhat Airport to the major areas of Saigon. There you will easily find information on the bus stations in a separate section: Column No. 4 in front of the National Terminal and Column No. 12 in front of the International Terminal.

1. Bus 152 |  Trung Son residential area - Ben Thanh Market - Tan Son Nhat Airport

Bus to the airport in Saigon 152

This is the first commissioned service serving the airport. Vehicles mostly dates back more than ten years.

Frequency of passage: From 12 to 17 minutes
Duration: 50 minutes
Price: 6,000 VND

Departure from Tan San Nhat airport
Schedule: 05.45 am to 18.00 pm 
Bus stop: New International Terminal - Truong Son - Tran Quoc Hoan - Hoang Van Thu - Nguyen Van Troi - Nam Ky Khoi Nghia - Nguyen Dinh Chieu - Cach Mang Thang 8 - Pham Hong Thai - The Lai - Roundabout - Ben Thanh Station - Tran Hung Dao - Nguyen Van Cu - Nguyen Van Cu Bridge - Duong Ba Trac - Highway 9A - Bus Station at the end of Runway 10 - Trung Son District.

Departure from Trung Son district
Schedule: 06:00 am to 18:15 pm 
Bus stop: Station at the end of runway No. 10 - Trung Son district - road 9A - Nguyen Van Linh - Duong Ba Trac - Nguyen Van Cu - Tran Hung Dao - Ben Thanh station - Ben Thanh market - roundabout - Le Lai - Pham Hong Thai - Cach Mang Thang 8 - Nguyen Thi Minh Khai - Pastera - Vo Thi Sau - Nam Ky Khoi Nghia - Nguyen Van Troi - Phan Dinh Giot - Truong Son - Tan Son Nhat Airport - New International Terminal. 

2. Bus 109 | Park 23/9 - Tan Son Nhat Airport

Price: 12,000 VND and 20,000 VND respectively at the lower and higher route at 5km

Bus Stop: International Terminal - Domestic Terminal - Truong Son - Tran Quoc Hoan - Hoang Van Thu - Nguyen Van Troi - Nam Ky Khoi Nghia - Ham Nghi - Ben Thanh Station - Pham Ngu Lao - Park 23/9.

Departure from the park 23/9
Schedule: From 0h00 to 01h30
Bus station:  Pham Ngu Lao - Le - roundabout Quach Thi Trang - Pham Ngu Lao - Yersin - Tran Hung Dao - Ben Thanh station - The Law - Paster - Vo Thi Sau - Nam Ky Khoi Nghia - Nguyen Van Troi - Phan Dinh Giot - Truong Son - International Terminal. 

3. Bus 119 | Mien Tay Bus Station - Tan Son Nhat Airport

   Schedule: From 04:00 to 21:00
   Frequency of passage: from 15 to 30 minutes
   Duration: 65 minutes
   Price: 12,000 VND and 20,000 VND respectively at the lower and higher route 5 km.

Departure from Tan San Nhat airport: International Terminal - Domestic Terminal - Truong Son - Tran Quoc Hoan - Lang Cha Ca - Hoang Van Thu - Xuan God - Xuan Hong - Truong Chinh - Ly Thuong Kiet - Bac Hai - Thanh Thai extended - Thanh Thai - Nguyen Tri Phuong - - Nguyen Chi Thanh - Nguyen Thi Nho - Hong Bang - Kinh Duong Vuong - Mien Tay Bus Station (15.1 km).

Departure from Mien Tay Bus Station: Kinh Duong Vuong - Hong Bang - Nguyen Thi Nho - Nguyen Chi Thanh - Nguyen Tri Phuong - Thanh Thai - Thanh Thai Extended - Bac Hai - Ly Thuong Kiet - Hoang Van Thu - Phan Dinh Giot - Truong Its - International Terminal.
Notes: buses 109 and 119 that use newer vehicles probably provide better comfort over bus 152.

4. Bus 159 | Mien Dong Bus Station - Tan Son Nhat Airport - An Suong Bus Station
Commissioned in January 2017, it is the newest of all and also the first connecting the TSN airport to two major bus stations in Ho Chi Minh City, Mien Dong and Anh Suong. The bus 159 facilitates in particular the passage to the airport and from the airport to the neighboring provinces.

Schedule: From 05:30 to 20:25
Frequency of passage: from 25 to 30 minutes
Duration: 65 minutes
Price: VND 7,000 and VND 10,000 respectively at the lower and upper half-way 

Departure from Mien Dong Bus Station: Dinh Bo Linh - Nguyen Xi - National Highway 13 - Pham Van Dong - Bach Dang - Truong Son - Tran Quoc Hoan - Hoa Cong - Truong Chinh - National Highway 22 - Return to Viet Hung Company - National Highway 22 - An Suong Bus Station. (17.5km).

Departure from An Suong Bus Station: National Highway 22 - Truong Chinh - Hoa Cong - Hoang Van Thu - Phan Dinh Giot - Truong Son - Hong Ha - Pham Van Dong - National Highway 13 - Dinh Bo Linh - Mien Dong Bus Station. 

5. Shuttle Bus 49 | Tan Son Nhat Airport to hotels and various points in the middle of downtown

    Frequency of passage: from 15 to 30 minutes
    Duration: between 30 and 40 minutes
    Price: 40,000 VND

Departure from Tan Son Nhat Airport: International Terminal - Domestic Terminal - Truong Son - Tran Quoc Hoan - Hoang Van Thu - Nguyen Van Troi - Nam Ky Khoi Nghia - The Duan - Cong Xa Paris - Dong Khoi - Dong Du - Hai Ba Trung - Ton Thang Thanh - Ham Nghi - Ben Thanh - Pham Ngu Lao - Nguyen Trai - Lai - Nguyen Thi Nghia - Cach Mang Thang 8 - Dien Bien Phu - Nam Ky Khoi Nghia - Nguyen Van Troi - Phan Dinh Giot - Truong Son - International Terminal.

As for Shuttle Bus 49, it differs from others in a much shorter travel time. Instead of stops at bus stations, it goes directly from Tan Son Nhat Airport to the planned points in central Saigon. It passes therefore through the known hotels of the city and particularly two frequented tourist spots of Ho Chi Minh City, the Cathedral of Notre Dame and the Opera of Saigon.
