    1. Historical remnants of the battle of Dien Bien Phu, one of the places of memory of the world

    This place contains a number of traces and witnesses reconstructing the highlights of the campaign whose Vietnamese victory of May 7, 1954, shook the whole world. After 56 days of intense fighting, the success of troops led by General Vo Nguyen Giap invited the defeated to leave Tonkin. This marked the advent of independence in North Vietnam, giving rise to the historic agreements of Geneva. Classified as a special national site, the site maintains 45 different sectors, eight of which are open to visitors.

    The museum and the statue commemorating the victory of Dien Bien Phu, the A1 hill called Éliane 2 by the French, the A1 cemetery, the headquarters of Colonel de Castries, the command post of General Vo Nguyen Giap, the Muong Thanh bridge are the must-sees.

    The best known sector of the great valley is undoubtedly the A1 hill. Primordial among 49 battle stage positions and unbeatable for the French, it was the most perilous to conquer for the Viet Minh guerrilla army.

    An emotional stopping place for many visitors is the A1 cemetery which is located a few hundred metres south of the A1 hill. Built in 1958, lie on the site 644 Viet Minh combatants, almost all of whom are anonymous.

    The headquarter of General Castries found on the Muong Thanh field remains intact. As a place of command and habitation, this place is 20 metres long and 8 metres wide, surrounded by barbed wire, four old tanks and other French weapons.

    Nestled in the jungle of Muong Phang commune, nearly 30 kilometres from the city, the Vietnamese army command post is a complex of camps, trenches, work offices and housing… You will also see an observation post there and a long trench connecting the shelter of General Vo Nguyen Giap and that of the Chief of Staff Hoang Van Thai.

    Built in 1984 to mark the 30th anniversary of the battle, the museum is located in the Muong Thanh district of the city centre. The 5 exhibition places present 274 objects, 122 photos and paintings focused on the themes, namely, the strategic location of Dien Bien Phu, French positions, preparation of the campaign by Vietnamese force, impact of the battle and Dien Bien Phu today.

    The Muong Thanh bridge crossing the Nam Ron river was erected by the French who called it "Prenley". 40 metres long and 5 metres wide, this iron structure manufactured and transported from France was important access to the heart of the battle positions.

    2. Muong Thanh field

    Renowned for being at the head of four largest fields in the Northwest, the Muong Thanh field will seduce you with a surprising beauty renewed with each rice season. Found at an altitude of 400 metres, this natural setting is spread over more than 20 kilometres long and 6 kilometres wide on average on the banks of the Nam Ron River.

    3. Pa Khoang Lake
