Vietnam Weather for Travelling

Vietnam is a country with an area of over 330 000 square km, located in the south east Asia. Its east is the sea. The territory is in the tropics and stretches more than 2000km from the north to the south. Therefore, the weather in Vietnam is very diverse, that makes travelling more interesting.
The north and north central are subtropical.
The central is a tropical monsoon climate
The south is tropical Savanna and it has 2 seasons: rainy and dry season.
In this article, the weather in Vietnam is divided by the tourist locations instead of being divided by geographical location so that tourists could easily imagine about the Vietnam climate.
Vietnam Weather
Weather in the northern Vietnam:
The north has 4 seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter.
Spring is from February to April, it is cold from February to March, the average temperature is around 15 – 20 degrees Celsius. End of March it gets less cold and warm up in the late April. It is cloudy and misty. The atmosphere is quite comfortable.
Summer is from May to July. It is hot and at the end of June, it is hottest. The temperature could reach to 37 – 40 degrees Celsius. It is sunny, less cloudy, hot and humid. It often rains in the early morning, sometimes, it is heavy rain.
Autumn is from August to October. The weather in the north in general and in Hanoi in particular is still very hot. At the end of October, it will be cooler. It is cloudless, sunny and dry. This season, sometimes there is storm coming to Vietnam. However, it is not regular and not big storm, not long lasting.
Winter is from November to January next year. It is cold and it is coldest in the end of December, the temperature could drop down to 10 degrees Celsius in Hanoi and many other mountainous areas in the north are colder, it is 2- 5 degrees Celsius. Fansipan peak in Sapa and Mau Son Peak in Lang Son are under zero. It is cloudy, no rain, cold and dry.
The weather in Hanoi and in the north of Vietnam are very diverse in a year. Many people in the southern Vietnam travel to the north in winter to enjoy the cold that is never found in the south.
Summer in Vietnam
Weather in the central:
Hue is the region with really the same weather as in the north in the summer. In the winter, it is not as cold as in the north.
From Hai Van Pass – Danang down to the south, the weather is quite different from the north. Danang and Hoian weather, it is warm around the year. In November to February, it is colder but the temperature is about 17 – 20 Degrees Celsius.
There is no cold winter in these areas. The dry season is from February to August. The rainy season is from September to January. The temperature is good around the year, about 25 degrees Celsius and the highest at 35 – 37 and lowest at 22 Degrees Celsius.
There are storms in Danang and Hoian in September, October and November, It often has heavy rains that cause floods.
The Nha Trang and Mui Ne are the 2 areas in the south central region. And the weather is warm all around the year. The temperatures are range from 20 – 30 degrees Celsius. The Nha Trang and Mui Ne weather is always beautiful for beach holidays.
Hoian weather in summer
Southern Vietnam:
It is hot around the year. A lot of sunshine and good humidity. Compared to the Hanoi weather, it is still very pleasant in hot weather in the south. Because the humidity is not so high, sometimes, in the shade, you just need a fan that will make you feel cool and comfortable.
The average temperature in the south is 25 – 30 degrees. In March and April, the temperature can reach 35 – 37 degrees.
There are 2 distinct seasons: the rainy season from May to November and the dry season is from December to April.
This is an ideal area for beach break at Mui Ne, Vung Tau, Phu Quoc.
The rainy season as its name, it rains but does not last long.
The Ho Chi Minh city weather represents the weather in the south where there is no winter. Local people would like to travel to the north, the mountainous areas like Sapa, Lang Son in December and January to enjoy the cold.

If you visit the north, Autumn is ideal.
If you visit the south, November, December to April are very suitable.
Phu Quoc Beach break should be avoided from May to September, It often rains, so tourists should take considerations.
