Best time to visit Nha Trang

Nha Trang features a tropical climate and is characterized by an oceanic climate, which explains its two distinctive seasons : the rainy season (September to December) and the dry season (January to August).

The best time to visit Nha Trang is undoubtedly the dry season. During this span of time, the weather is relatively pleasant, with little precipitation, which is perfect for outdoor activities such as swimming, sunbathing on the beach and visiting the city's main attractions.

While the dry season is considered the best time to visit Nha Trang, it’s not impossible to come to this coastal city in the rainy season. Coming to Nha Trang in the period between September and December, you will discover its different side. During this span of time, thanks to the rain, the lush landscape becomes more lively than ever. Though the weather might not be so supportive of activities on the beach, you can still enjoy exploring other city sites, such as the Alexandre Yersin Museum, the National Oceanographic Museum, Po Nagar Cham Towers, Nha Trang Cathedral, Dam Market, and Tram Huong Tower. However, make sure to check the weather regularly and be prepared for sudden rain.

How to travel to Nha Trang from Ho Chi Minh city

With a distance of 434 kilometers by road, here are three optimal methods for getting to Nha Trang from Ho Chi Minh City

By bus

This means of transport has many advantages, such as reasonable costs, many departures throughout a day and numerous companies that provide the Ho Chinh Minh - Nha Trang route for visitors to freely pick from. However, with a distance of 434 kilometers, your journey might take 9 to 10 hours. Therefore, if you don’t want to spend too much time traveling, the bus does not seem to be a good option. Nonetheless, if you are on a budget, we recommend taking the overnight sleeper bus. This way, you can save on travel and accommodation costs while enjoying the most comfortable trip possible.

The cost of a bus from Ho Chi Minh City to Nha Trang varies from 170,000 to 540,000 VND. Here are some companies that provide the Ho Chi Minh City-Nha Trang route for your reference:

By train

The train is an excellent choice to travel from Ho Chi Minh City to Nha Trang if you wish to appreciate the scenery along the way. The Saigon-Nha Trang trains depart from Saigon Station (District 3) to Nha Trang Station (Nha Trang city). On average, there are around 12 departures per day. A journey from Ho Chi Minh City to Nha Trang by train will take you approximately 7 hours and the ticket price ranges from 210,000 to 757,000 VND, depending on the type of seat. We recommend you take the sleeper train with soft berth for the best comfort. Only one good night sleep away and you will find yourself at Nha Trang.

This means of transport is a favorite of many travellers owing to its affordable price and its better comfort compared to other vehicles such as cars and buses. Most sleeper trains in Vietnam now have Wi-Fi (though the connection speed is not very fast) and are fully equipped with other amenities to help reduce travelers' fatigue to a minimum. Therefore, it’s highly recommended to book your ticket in advance, especially for tickets departing on weekends and during the holiday season.

By plane

The fastest, but also the most expensive way to get to Nha Trang from Ho Chi Minh City. The Ho Chi Minh City- Nha Trang planes depart from Tan Son Nhat International Airport, and take nearly 2 hours to land at Cam Ranh Airport in Khanh Hoa Province. Generally, there are 11 departures per day. This is a perfect option if you don’t want to spend much time traveling. However, the distance from Cam Ranh Airport to Nha Trang city center is 35 kilometers and the time of shifting depends on your choice of transportation (a taxi normally takes 20 to 40 minutes).

Since flying is the most chosen means of transport to Nha Trang, as well as the most costly of all options, we strongly suggest you book your ticket two to three months in advance to get a better price and ensure a seat on the plane.

Other means of transport

Besides these three means mentioned above, you can also get to Nha Trang from Ho Chi Minh City by either car or motorbike. Yet, we don’t suggest taking these two methods due to the long distance between the two cities. Traveling by car would cost a big amount of money considering an 8-hour-long trip, while traveling by motorbike requires not only money and time but also physical strength. You can sure easily rent a motorbike, but you would need to expect and be prepared for all the risks that might occur on such a long trip.

In the hope that you have found your perfect way to get to Nha Trang from Ho Chi Minh City after reading this article, we wish you a safe journey and an unforgettable time in the beautiful coastal city of Nha Trang. Bon voyage !
