Hue Flood Season and the Best time to visit Hue
- on Nov 17, 2023 By: Ngoc Tu DINH
On November 15, 2023, the urban areas of Hue City and Hoi An in central Vietnam experienced significant flooding as a result of intense precipitation and the overflow of rivers and hydropower dams.
The occurrence of flooding in Hue City has been attributed to the combination of severe rainfall and floodwater originating from the upstream Huong River, starting from Tuesday night. In the morning of Wednesday, inundation occurred in many residential areas located in Xuan Phu and Phu Hoi Wards, with water levels reaching or exceeding one meter. In order to mitigate the risk of flooding, vehicles were relocated to elevated areas. However, despite this precautionary measure, the water level still reached the wheels of the cars.
According to meteorological agencies, Thua Thien-Hue province is expected to see substantial rainfall from November 13 to 15. This weather phenomenon is attributed to the influence of a mass of cold air and high-altitude winds. Specifically, Nam Dong, A Luoi, and Phu Loc Districts are anticipated to get particularly significant precipitation, with rainfall levels ranging from 500 to 800 mm.
Currently, individuals traverse the thoroughfares of Hue by means of watercraft. Thua Thien-Hue province has implemented a policy allowing all students to remain at home.
It is anticipated that the province would sustain precipitation levels ranging from 150 to 500 mm until Friday, perhaps leading to an expansion of flooded regions.
